Choose the outline size
The first sheet gives a large mitten with open space for drawing a pattern. The second has four smaller outlines that can become matching pairs. Choose a large copy for individual colouring or several small copies for a group display. The template is a flat paper-craft outline, with no sewing allowance, fit measurements or clothing construction instructions.
Make a pattern-pair game
Trace or print the smaller shapes, then give two mittens the same pattern. Try stripes, spots or a simple repeated shape. Mix the finished paper mittens on a table and match the pairs by their designs. Children can explain which features helped them choose a pair. An adult can help with cutting, especially around the thumb, before the shapes are used for the game.
Create a classroom display
Print at actual size on Letter paper and check one copy before making a set. For a garland, colour the outlines first and cut them afterwards. Attach the paper shapes to a display line using the method you normally use in your classroom. Write a name on the back so each mitten can be returned. Save an untouched master copy for tracing onto another sheet or for a later winter craft.
